Heat Transfer and Cooking Project, Due March 13, 2017:
3RD QUARTER PROJECT : HEAT TRANSFER AND COOKING ; PROPERTIES OF MATTER ( 35%)
THIS PROJECT REQUIRES PARENTAL SUPERVISION. IF PARENTS CANNOT SUPERVISE, PLEASE INDICATE AT THE BACK OF THIS SHEET.
- Think of a recipe that you and your parents are willing to prepare. It may be simple or anything that you and your parents have decided.
- Once you have decided on what to cook, you have to relate the concepts of conduction, convection and radiation in every step of your cooking procedure.
- You may take pictures while you are cooking. Pictures of the ingredients, process, end products, etc. will be accepted as long as it relates to heat transfer.
- Put them altogether using a poster board or a compilation folder. It should also contain the answer to the question : “HOW IS COOKING RELATED TO HEAT TRANSFER” and “ What properties of Matter can you identify on the ingredients that you have used?”
- If you don’t have a camera, you may draw or cut pictures instead.
- Deadline for this project will be on : March 13, 2017 ( MONDAY)
- In case your parents are unable to supervise, you may just cut pictures and write down concepts that answers the question : How is cooking related to heat transfer?

COOKING PROJECT RUBRIC
1. COOKING PROCESS – 25%
- Organized and shows the step by step procedure on how the recipe chosen is cooked
- Practiced SAFETY on the process of cooking
2. APPLICATION OF HEAT TRANSFER PROPERTIES OF MATTER – 25%
- Was able to relate how the process of cooking is related to conduction, convection, radiation.
- Should be able to identify conductors and insulators used in cooking
- Should be able to cite some properties of matter discussed in class ( density, color, texture etc.)
3. POSTER BOARD / FOLDER COMPILATION – 25%
- Should contain relevant pictures that showed the cooking process and how it relates to heat transfer
- Should contain concepts / words that describes each step
- Should contain words that relates to heat transfer and properties of matter
- Should be neat , orderly and organized
4. ORAL PRESENTATION IN CLASS – 25%
- Should be able to present in class the cooking project with confidence
- Should be able to answer questions from classmates
